1. A legitimate contractor will have the proper liability insurance and will be willing to show proof if asked.
2. A legitimate contractor will be registered to do business in the state you reside.
3. If your contractor has employees they need to have workers compensation insurance and should be able to provide proof.
If your contractor cannot provide or won’t provide any of these required documents that could be a red flag they are not properly insured or legally doing business in your state. This can unfortunately set you up to be liable for any damages to property or personal injury on your property if someone gets hurt.
